Atlanta Pollen Season: How to Stop the Yellow From Wrecking Your Paint

Why pine pollen damages paint

Pine pollen is mildly acidic. When it sits on hot paint and gets damp from morning dew, it begins to etch the clear coat. Over a few weeks, that creates dull spots and micro-marring that no quick wash will lift.

What NOT to do

• Don't dry-wipe it off. You're grinding abrasive particles into the clear coat.
• Don't use a drive-through automated wash. Those brushes drag the pollen across every panel.
• Don't skip the rinse. A rinseless or waterless wash on heavy pollen is a swirl factory.

What to actually do

1. Foam-pre-soak first. Loosens pollen so it lifts away instead of grinding. 2. Hand wash with the two-bucket method. One bucket soap, one bucket rinse. 3. Dry with a clean microfiber. 4. Apply a sealant or topper. Adds slickness so the next pollen wave slides off easier.

The one-shot fix: ceramic coating
